P!nk and other thoughts

I'm not the biggest P!nk fan, but I do like a lot her songs. What I like most is her f**k off attitude. I'm always trolling iTunes for new music because when you spend a ridiculous amount of hours training for a marathon, you constantly need new music.

This morning, on my loooong drive out to the start of our group run, I heard P!nk's Blow Me One Last Kiss and I fell in love with it.

Awesome running song.

I mentioned it to Tara when we were running this morning, but I hadn't really listened to the all of the lyrics. Oh, my God, this made me laugh. Seriously. She never sits around and laments lost love, she basically just says, "f**k off, I'm done."

I'm not going through a break up or anything, but the next time I get my heart broken, I should listen to this song. I'm one of those people that pulls out the rose colored glasses when something ends and somehow manages to erase all of the crappy stuff from my memory. This girl knows how to get over someone!

Whiskey dick? I would not want to
 be this woman's ex.

I bet P!nk is the type of woman that would slash an ex's tires. But it's still funny.

I also love her song, So What. Same attitude. Plus, both of them are excellent running songs. I don't usually like break up songs because, well, they're depressing...and sometimes whiny. But her break up songs make me laugh. I would not want to cross her. She seems pretty bad ass.

This morning, we did our group long run. It has been hot, hot, hot here. But the sun is rises later and later, so at least we're not being fried like an egg. We only did 7.35 miles. Eight miles were on the schedule, but as soon as that sun came up, we turned around and headed back. I never thought I would be someone that said, "only 7.35 miles." My, how things have changed.

Someone added some "artwork" to the sidewalk since the last time we ran the canal.

I thought this was cool...

I haven't been feeling great lately, so I went to bed last night immediately when I got home from work. I think it's a combination of too many outdoor activities in this ridiculous heat (it was 115 yesterday), not enough water and too much hidden gluten sneaking it's way into my body. Of course, I should really be more careful...

Run Disney announced the WDW Half Marathon Medal for 2013.

Thumbs up from me!
I like it. A lot of people were complaining about it, but I like this one better than last year's medal. Last year's just seemed...creepy. I like the circle design, which makes it look more like a medal.

Not a big fan of this one.
I am ready for them to release Mickey, since I'm doing the Goofy Challenge this year.
Now I'm off to take a short nap before meeting a friend for dinner. Cheers!

Have I mentioned how much I love my photo apps?

How I know I'm getting old...

So I have mentioned a couple of times how much I love Of Monsters and Men.

Not taken with my camera...because my cell camera is crap. (source)
My friend, Sarah, was in town this weekend and we have shared tons of music in the last couple of years. She's introduced me to several bands that I love, such as Mumford and Sons before they were mainstream. Since we have similar taste in music, she asked if I had heard of Of Monsters And Men, which of course I had, and I burned some of their stuff for her. She mentioned that they were going to be at Marquee Theatre last night. I decided I was going...and that Tara was going with me.

The show started at 7. Warning sign #1 that you are getting old: you think that a show starting at 7 will be over around 9, which is plenty of time to go home and be in bed so you can get up for work. And in my case, I actually get up and ride my horse before that.

Marquee Theater is general admission, so except for the stage, the place looks like a small dark warehouse, which is cool, but there's no actually seating. So Tara and I are sitting around on the cement floor drinking cherry Stoli and soda, and noticing that the average age of everyone else is 19. Warning sign number 2 that you are getting old: you no longer understand how "kids dress these days", Or as Tara calls it. "hobo chic".

Sign #3 that you are getting old: you actually expect the show to start at 7 because that's what the ticket says. Silly. Young whipper snappers do not need to be in bed at a reasonable time! They are now on summer break. So, the opening act came on after 8:30, maybe even pushing 9. I was ready to go to sleep.

Sign #4 that you are getting old: you forget how loud amplifiers are. My first thought was that I should have brought ear plugs. Now I did see some young people wearing ear plugs, so there. Maybe I'm not granny aged, yet.

FINALLY, Of Monsters and Men took the stage. And it was well worth the wait and self torture regarding my age. They. Were. Awesome.

I loved every minute of their performance. I have to say that all of the amps tend to distort the sound and since I do have some back ground in music, it does bug me a little because I really like how the music and singing compliment each other. But that's not a getting old thing. That's a music snob thing.

We had a lot of fun and I'm so glad we went, despite how sleepy I was at worl all day. I didn't end up getting myself a shirt, even though I said I would. Boo.

Can you blame me? Would you wear this? (source)
I'm off to San Diego tomorrow for the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon. Or in my case, the half marathon. I can't wait to get out of town. It's getting really hot here and it's only supposed to be in the high 60s this weekend in San Diego.

I will even be able to take decent pictures! I had a Target gift card, so I got myself a new toy.

Now I won't have to rely on my crappy cell camera anymore! The battery is charging right now. I'm off to finish my laundry and get in bed. I have a busy weekend ahead of me!

Super Sunday

Busy day! I started out with the a 3 mile run around the neighborhood. Usually, the weather is so much hotter than it has been this weekend, so I'm taking full advantage of the cooler temps. Because I'm running so slowly right now, running has actually become fun again. I'm even considering go out again tonight just because at this pace, my body doesn't feel trashed all of the time.

I went out to the barn, where Bam Bam the wonder pony was a awesome today! I switched horses with one of the other women in the barn. Her horse, Jackson, is so fun to ride and Bam Bam showed her how to do a big extended trot (even though he is little).

I spent several hours last night burning music that I've promised for several people. Have I mentioned how much I love Of Monsters and Men? Why, yes, I believe I have. My friend, Sarah, informed me that they are playing here on Wednesday. Anyone want to go?

                                              Love them!                                  (source)
This is my current favorite song. Sadly, this song strikes a little close to home, but then everyone has felt this way at some point in time. I'm loving it anyway. I'm sappy like that.

Maybe I'm a crook for stealing your heart away
And maybe I'm a crook for not caring for it
And maybe I'm a bad, bad, bad, bad person
Well, baby, I know

And these fingertips, they'll never run through your skin
Those bright blue eyes can only meet mine across a room
Filled with people that are less important than you

Because you love, love, love when you know I can't love

You love, love, love when you know I can't love
You love, love, love when you know I can't love you.¦

So I think it's best we both forget before we dwell on it
The way you held me so tight all through the night
It was near morning

Because you love, love, love when you know I can't love
You love, love, love when you know I can't love
You love, love, love when you know I can't love you.

Gah. Depressing? Yes.

But, I'm seriously in love with this band. I love their sound and their lyrics. I need to figure out a way to see them on Wednesday! I may kidnap Tara and force her to see them with me!
Edit: I just bought tickets! Woot! Yes, I will be getting a shirt!

Y is for Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs

Maps by the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs gets me every time I hear it. And I haven't listened to it in awhile. Such a good song.

O is for Of Monsters and Men

Whew! Finally half way through the alphabet!

I'm always trolling for new music, especially when I'm on a running kick because sometimes the thing that makes me run the extra mile is an awesome song.

By accident, I discovered an Icelandic band that is apparently becoming quite popular here in the States with their song, " Little Talks." (I'm always a little late to the party because I'm particular about music, so I rarely just listen to the radio.)

I'm also an on-again-off-again Cracked.com reader and I just read the article, Six Popular Upbeat Songs You Didn't Realize Are Depressing. "Little Talks" totally falls into that category.

This live version is slightly different from the iTunes version -there's a great trumpet solo. Anyway, I bought the song because it was so upbeat and has an alternative flare. Then I started listening to the lyrics and it's actually pretty depressing.

I'm not sure of the actual meaning behind this song, but my interpretation is that the girl is slipping into some sort of mental illness or addiction and the guy is talking her through it. Having watched people I care about self destruct through mental illness and addiction, maybe my interpretation is biased.

Regardless, I am in love with this song. Check it out. I'm off to check more of their work and maybe after I take a nap, I will do my race recap for the Pat Tillman Run which was held this morning in Tempe, AZ. It was HOT.

M is for Marathon

M is for Marathon
Why yes, I did use M&Ms for my letter M...because I ate some after I did my first marathon training run. Let's pretend that counts as refueling.

finally finished my NYC marathon training plan. It even involves an Excel spreadsheet which is pretty impressive for me. I did a modified version of Jeff Galloway's training plan, minus the crazy 30 mile run he schedules. Not. Gonna. Happen.

I spent some time during my crazy weekend trolling iTunes for some new songs and I found a few. T suggested looking at some of the running blogs and checking out some of the playlists to find new music to listen to.

Speaking of marathons, the song Marathon by Tennis is awesome. Maybe not the best for running, but I listed to this song on repeat on my drive to and from San Diego in October and I'm still not tired of it (although I don't listen to it on repeat anymore). Despite the title, the song has nothing to do with running marathons. The tune in catchy and retro and I love it. Too bad I don't really like any of her other music.

In other news, it's getting hot here in the desert, so I will be doing a lot of training on the treadmill. Today was my first day back in the gym. I haven't run on a treadmill since I was training for my very first half marathon. Last summer, I tried to get up and run at 4 or 5 in the morning, but I never made it very far because it was just way too hot. End result: not nearly enough training happened last summer.

Unless you live in Phoenix where Satan's sidewalk is the real sidewalk...
So the Dreadmill and I will be BFFs for next few months, because treadmill running is better than hallucinating out in the Phoenix heat this summer at 4 AM when it's already 95 degrees.

I won't continue you to bore you with the work out details, but I did 45 minutes. It had almost forgotten how good it feels to work out. If anyone knows where I can find some good music, let me know!

My hardest workout is trying not to look bored while you tell me about your workout.
