I <3 NY!

I did it. I finally entered the lottery to run the 2012 ING New York City Marathon in November. The chances of getting in via lottery are slim, so T and I will most likely be running for a charity.

I'm a little scared but I know I need to have at least 1 full marathon on the books before I attempt to do the Goofy Challenge in January 2013.

Even though there are tons of full marathon options that would not require a ridiculous amount of fund raising, this is New York City! My favorite city on earth. If I'm gonna run a full, might as well go big, right?

  1. Exciting!! I think that race is on my birthday this year, too.

Goofy .. oh man, I get these excited, yet terrified feelings in the pit of my stomach every time I think of it. Can't wait!!!

    1. Me too! But, like you, I did the half and the relay this year and I felt really good. I'm hoping that the fact that it's on Disney property will keep me entertained enough to make it!

I'm actually a little more nervous for NYC because it's quite a production. I know what to expect from Disney, but waiting around and navigating the start for the NYC marathon has me a little scared!

  2. The Disney property part is what makes me think I can do it, too! The nice distraction of the characters is awesome. I was shocked at how fun the 2nd leg of the relay was and how I actually felt really good. Hopefully I can remember that feeling once I actually start training for all of that! I kind of don't want to train. Can't I just magically be good enough to do it? Hm, probably not!

I've never been to New York, so I imagine that would be just as entertaining for me as Disney -- except you don't have those photo stops as an excuse for a mini break!

    1. Well, so far, I've gotten away with showing up for races and not really training for them. I don't think that's a good idea when it comes to Goofy. The Disney aspect is what really helps. I love everything about a Disney race and I plan on doing many more, although, I may only do 1 Goofy. Who knows, though, I may get hooked!

I actually felt really good after doing the half and the relay, which was really surprising. I figure the best course of action is to just have fun during the half and go as slow as possible so that you save energy for Sunday.
