I Need An Intervention

Dude. Netflix is ruining my life.

Honestly, though, Netflix is like the coolest shit ever and I can't believe I waited so long to jump on the cool train to sleep deprivation because once I start watching something I can not stop. This also means I can't run because, you know, I'm busy bingeing on TV shows everyone else told me I should be watching but just now realized they were right and my life is empty without these stories filling my brain.

I've already plowed through Orange Is The New Black, House of Cards, The Following (omg, if you're not watching this, you should be) and I'm working through American Horror Story and Breaking Bad. PSA: if you watch American Horror Story, make sure you sleep with your lights on and have your attack cat ready.

Grrrrr! So ferocious!

I've decided that if there is any hope of training for the NYC Marathon, I must find myself a gym with wifi. This way I can at least park my ass on a treadmill or an elliptical while I binge on TV. This gym also has to be on my daily flight path, which is limited. I don't have a life, people, so I don't venture too far out of my daily commute triangle.

Supposedly, there's a really nice gym opening right in the Bermuda Triangle that is my life sometime this year, but it hasn't opened, yet. The other locations are super nice and have all sorts of cool stuff and wifi, which is the most important.

This is a solid plan, right? I mean, it's already in the 90s here, so I feel like being able to watching some American Horror Story while running will train me to sprint from the evil spirits that are sure to escape the trusty iPad and haunt me all while in the air conditioned safety of a gym.

I just have to find some other gym to tide me over until the new one opens. #firstworldproblems

  1. I've gotta figure out how to get Netflix. I have a smart TV and the remote has a Netflix button, so theoretically, I shouldn't need any extra equipment I think. I'm a little afraid of it for the reasons you mention here!

    1. I just use my laptop or iPad. I have a very old archaic tv, so I still have satellite, but I'm thinking of giving it up.

  2. You definitely need a gym Jamie. We have binge watched many shows via DVD's passed along to us, but I have resisted Netflix for a very long time. I know if we join it will have us watching way too late at night, and let's face it, I am an old person! (Pam)

  3. Welcome to my world! Although, I don't know if I could watch something while running on a treadmill. Maybe I should try it sometime.

    1. Tara rained on my parade about watching Netflix while on the treadmill- she says it's not easy. I'm willing to extensively research this, however. I was really counting on my iPad helping me significantly increase my cardio...

  4. Instead of turning off Netflix, which I am watching as I type this, I am making a note to watch The Following. I also plowed through Orange is the New Black. I became Mad Men obsessed because of it, too. Addicted!!!

  5. Srry, I didn't mean it's not a good plan, it'll do in a pinch. ;) Like, an entire summer of sweltering outside-avoiding pinches. I just found that when I was really into a show (Breaking Bad) I resented the bouncing, and when I wasn't into it (Thor) it wasn't distracting enough to make me forget my hatred of running. But believe me I'm about to jump back on the comedy of errors bandwagon again too, bc today's run in 87* or whatever was UnAcceptable!
Also making a note to try The Following and House of Cards. Am sad to admit I also have Hulu AND Amazon for binge-watching purposes. Others I've burned thru and continue to stalk: The Mindy Project, Brooklyn 99, Sherlock, Parenthood, Switched at Birth, Parks and Rec, Downton Abbey, Psych, Dr Who, OH AND if you liked Heroes (understatement- I think I cried when it ended) then Misfits is an awesome british kind of version with awesome music.
*hangs head in shame* That is probably even more tv than when I still had cable. :/
